Midweek Masters Series #021 *** Typecell ***

This week's installment of Drum and Bass Proper's Midweek Masters Series comes to us from the one like Typecell! Typecell is the alias of Guido Hoppe, an electronic music producer and DJ from Kassel, Germany. Influenced by the burgeoning rave culture and rise of electronic music in Europe, his journey began in 1992 under the alias "DJ P.M.C." playing techno, house and breakbeats. His initial foray into music production began in 1996 and first official releases came through his own label, Genetic Rhythm Records. These were followed by releases on various notable labels such as Bonzai Records, Thunderdom, Q-Dance, Red Alert Records, N.E.W.S., and House Nation.
In 1999, he adopted the new moniker "Typecell" to specialize in forward-thinking techno-induced drum & bass, techstep, neurofunk with a focus on club-friendly yet experimental vibe. 2002 he founded Protogen Records (RIP), a label that became a platform for both his music and the works of other talented artists in the genre. The label focused on promoting innovative and cutting-edge drum and bass, helping to shape the sound of the genre during that period. In 2004 the sublabel "Subplate Recordings" was added for digital releases only which established itself as a leading force in forward thinking drum & bass and other sub genres. Typecell has maintained a significant presence in the drum & bass and techno scenes, known for his experimental approach and dark, atmospheric soundscapes.
